Actually, the Catholic Church is responsible for the most number of charitable organizations around the world (there are too many Catholic Charities organizations to count).

Many people believe that the Vatican is much richer than it actually is (not to say that it isn't a very wealthy country/religious authority).

This is mainly becuase most of the Vatican's wealth is estimated in "priceless" artworks and artifacts that have been collected by the church for two millenia. Another aspect of it is that the Catholic Church holds more land in the world than any other private organization because several people leave their property to the Church in their wills and they own every lot that their churches, schools, and charities are built on - but they cannot do anything with those properties because it is being used by a Catholic branch.

    • +6 to you. I'm surprised by some of the ignorance about the Roman Catholic Church's "finances" and its charitable work. I am not a Catholic. And there are a lot of reasons to fault the RCC or disagree with some of its doctrines and practices. IMO there are many things one can argue are "wrong" with the Church. The charitable practices of the Church and its members are *not* among them.
