I may have been a little more graphic than was called for, but I don't want anyone thinking it's anything less than excruciating.
by PrettyPirate on March 21st, 2007
Indeed.

No need to explain. Been a little graphic myself. Sorry if it was tough to read under the circumstances. My dad committed suicide and it was such a taboo subject back then. I think we should be able to discuss it honestly. Too many young people have thoughts like this and we need to be honest with them as well as listen to them.

Graphic is not bad - it's the truth, it shouldn't be censored.

This is the first time I've read this answer, PrettyPirate. How you could ever think your answers don't help people is just beyond me. Honest and open communication is the key to everything. It's bad when someone feels as though he/she can't open up or that if they do, they'll be shut out. That's when things break down for everyone. Probably makes no sense, but I understood it, anyway. I hope you do, too.

I hope you aren't planning on finding out. You need to talk this out

i know this is an old answer...and thank you so much for being this graphic! i have attempted b4...but never this way. and im not planning to either. But how long ago was this? and are you happier now? and how did you get to the place your at now? I know these are such huge complicated questions, but my ex-bf is threatening suicide and im scared he will. but i feel that there is nothing more i can do, he wont talk, and by being in a relationship with him he is pulling me down with him and it is not helping him at all or me for that matter...

I am a cutter and have been for a while now and since reading your answer I would just like to know how deep you have to cut before it becomes painful. I have rrecently cut deep enough so that the skin on my wrist split and I could see my vein underneith, was this supposed to be painful? Thanks

I understand it being painful... but as you describe makes me wonder what more than the basics of cut skin is at play here.

I haven't slit my wrists yet, but I keep thinking about it. The hills that I have climbed are few. Every time I near the summit, life constantly sends me tumbling down the hill, to the base. I listen to the way people cut thier wrists. They say that the pain is excruciating. Hello! No wonder! You don't cut accross the wrists. When you do so, you are cutting the tendons and the nerves, which accounts for most of the pain. The only thing you want to slit is the veins to let the blood out. You split the vein like splitting hair, right down the middle. If you insist on cutting yourself, make sure you use a sharp sheetrock knife, or, a razor blade. Using this method you, don't cause as much damage, and is a lot less painful, in case you want to change your mind, and needs a lot less stitches.

far better than the wrist... just go for the arterie up by the armpit... unlike hte wrists it will most likely succeed.

Um.... HELLO!!!! all ya'lls who are asking about how this person cut or what method... STOP! THINK! We're all aware that there is nothing so bad that it cant get worse, but if you really feel that way, before you get final about it, think about what you are doing and how it will affect those who love you. Suicide is one of the most selfish acts humanity has come up with. I've cut, I've bled, and I did all of that as a selfish little bitch who had no idea of the horrors I would go through. And believe me, I went through some serious scary shit. But I take pride in the fact that I held on and lived through it, and came out a strong and mentally healthy person on the other side. I'm not sayin' I'm peachy with a side of keen, but I'm alive and waiting for the next adventure, as good or bad as it may be. Life is a gift, and pain is inevitable. But you have to keep going. There is no other way.

just because -10 is less than -8 does not make -8 a positive value. if someones life is more miserable than pleasureable then who is anyone else to insist they have no right to die? that actually defies the right to life by changing it from a right to an obligation.
