    Brian I

The first year of your life was your first year, or year 1 of your life. The exact same is true of the calendar - the year chosen as the start date was year 1 AD and the year before it was year 1 BC.

    • but I wasn't 1 until after I was alive for 365 days...if the calendar follows the same rules as you claim (which I do not know if it does or not), then the first birthday of the AD calendar would not occur until after it's been around for 365 days first...Nobody claims their newborn baby is 1 year old, nor does anyone say a 366 day old baby is 2. Your answer seems to contradict itself but thanks for taking a stab at it.

    • I didn't say you were 1, I said you were in your first year - in other words year 1 of your life.

    • Exactly. The second year of my life I am called "1", not "2".
