I had an infection in my left ear, and now it is hard to hear out of that ear. What can I do (besides going to the doctor)?

It is quite possible that you still have fluid behind your eardrum, which will make it hard to hear. Check with your doctor to make sure that you aren't in need of further antibiodics. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Cleaning your ears is never a bad idea, but be careful with cotton swabs, you can push any lingering wax farther down into the canal and make that situation worse.
