Help answer this question below.

P.E.O. is a sisterhood. What P.E.O. means is a secret. Does anyone know what it means or might mean? Will you share?

    Well, I'll tell you... but then I shall have to terminate you! :-)

    Seriously: when I was young I worked at the California P.E.O. home for about 18 months as a maintenance aide (repairing things, etc.) All the employees I met speculated endlessly about the meaning of it, but nobody seemed to know.

    We had some rather offensive phrases we invented, but I doubt any are correct. It's a well -guarded secret, and I still don't know to this day.

    • I'm not sure the regular members even know. I think it would leak out if they did... too many. Maybe only the High Priestesses (or whatever they're called) have the scoop.

    • well, they both claim (well, g-ma isn't here anymore... she joined in 1922) they know. I guess I will only find the answer by delving into their world. Which since it is philanthropic it would be a good thing anyway!

    • According to their website which all can access,it stands for "philanthropic educational organization." My mother-in-law was a long-time member.
