Question

I've heard that some people think internet access should be free. What do you think - should it be free? Should 'free' mean cable internet access, or just dial-up? Who will pay for it?

The same can be said for radio and television. Ads are still paid for and used on these media. I know that I miss out on many of these ads, since I do not listen to the radio and I had the tv shut off. But I do have the option to turn the radio or tv on and use them at any time. The same can not be said for the internet. If I wish to get internet access, I need to find an internet provider and sign up for service, including the possibility of early termination fees. If I am in the lower income bracket, I need to figure out where to get the money for this service. That puts me at a distinct disadvantage compared to those with more disposable income. Also, most of my children's assignments today include the instructions "go on the internet and find..." I live in Rural America where most of the people are lucky to have a working car, let alone the internet. Should we put them at a disadvantage? Or maybe consider them privileged because we can afford the internet?
