Yes- don't waste the oppurtunity, if he's shy he'll probably be grateful for your making the first move. If its a mobile/ cell phone number you might want to try opening with a text message instead, as this can be a little less intimidating, you can call him after you've messaged each other a few times and he may feel a bit more comfortable talking to you.
