    No. and NO again.

I can't believe this - this one is going to be LONG. Sorry. I had to vent today b/c I really don't like school.

I was educated in the "California Secondary School Education System" or whatever you want to call it and let me tell you that it was some F*#@-ing piece of work. Gosh, where do I begin? It was technically supposed to prepare us for the UC system, but nonetheless, I was in AP classes filled with motivated kids who were ultimately taught by morons. I mean, how can one end up with a 4.23 GPA and almost never go to school b/c you're watching Chinese Kung Fu movies all day??? Honestly...?

Then, I went to some prissy "secular" Jewish college in Greater-Boston and I felt that there was a huge jump in the material - at least in Chemistry, Math, and Physics - I ended up going for Economics (b/c I neither have the tenacity nor the geekiness for science) and that was...well... too easy for its own good....but that is beside the point. (^-^) I'll be honest - most of the Economics courses, like Micro, Macro, and Econometrics, were a complete joke....

Now, I'm in a grad. pgm. in Chicago, which its overall institution is once again filled with undergraduate kids who are suicidal and depressed b/c they were used to getting 4.3's and now can barely get a B- in Diff. Eq....

I don't feel that bad for them. :)

But anyway, when American kids can barely read and write their own language and have to use both of their hands and feet to count - I don't think that's very good. Yeah, "No Child Left Behind" ....What? Counting fingers and toes???

The system seldom motivates students who actually want to go somewhere in life. Then again, if you have some other system...like have a Korean education system - you will probably kill yourself by jumping off buildings or by joining a Japanese Internet Suicide Cult - as they do there....

So? Ship your kid to some prissy high school all the way in Andover, MA (supposedly, it's good over there???.. no clue), or send your kid to some Quaker high school in Long Island - or better yet - Send them to The University of Chicago "Lab" School where your child will get stellar secondary education, but be subject to unforeseen experiments...at least in the tandem. :)

    • A great, well developed answer by someone who seems to have been well-enough prepared to get into the the University of Chicago.
