If one's ancestors were Lords, Dukes, Ladies, etc., is it possible for an individual to legitimately claim a title in today's society?

    Not in the U.S., we don't recognize such titles. Remember, we fought a 13-year war for independence so that we could have a country where "all men are created equal". Then 85 years later we fought the bloodiest war in our history for the same reason.

    • Wrong, in Scotland, if you can legally prove your ancestor was a nobleman/noblewoman, then it's conceivable; although, unlikely, that you can inherit his/her title.
