Why not use "w2," instead of "web 2.0?"

    Because it is a metaphor, not a real think. The analogy is with software versions, where version 2.0 is supposed to be a major upgrade on 1.0, 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.1.2 and so on. Actually, it is not such thing. It is not a step change, it is just part of the continuing rise of the the complexity and usefulness of the Web. There is no one thing that makes Web2.0, it is just that a number of technologies first invented about five years ago are now being used together, and designers have learned from the first generation of interactive web sites how to make better ones.

      What's left of my common sense tells me that THAT's not so w2, but I do get your point.

    • 'cuse the bad math...
      I meant to say it's five or six EXTRA keystrokes.

      In my personal notes, I use the shorter "w2," saving those precious strokes.
