Yeah um drowning your plant doesn't work, I have bonsai trees I stick outside during the summer. We brought them in this fall and noticed that one of the larger pots had hundreds of ants in it...I assumed there was a nest so we submerged the pot for about an hour and yup some ants died...thought we had solved the problem and put it up in the window shelf and two weeks later noticed hundreds were all back.

So of course I thought maybe eggs had hatched, submerged it again for three hours took it out and dug around in the dirt and what looked like a bad horror movie ants were crawling everywhere and holding little eggs in their jaws.

So here is what you need to do....either deal with the ants or replant (which is what I did) now the bonsai soil is sitting waiting to dry out, I figure no plants no food will equal ant death.
