Is it legal for an employer to refuse to hire someone who has filed for bankruptcy?

    Yes. If the job position requires the handling of money or it is a position where a certain level of credibility is required, an employer can discriminate on that basis. When fraud and embezzlement scandals happen, it is usually the result of an employee who has money problems in his personal life. The temptation of "skimming" some of the money can be too great for someone who is experiencing difficult financial matters that have not been resolved. Also, it is often thought that before someone can responsibly handle money in a corporation, they have to show proof that they can responsibly handle their own money.
