My 1992 740 Turbo stalls intermittently. One time, a (3-2-1) air mass meter code was set in the computer. Is it unusual for AMM not to set codes all the time?

Codes 1-2-1 and 3-2-2 have to do with the AMM. Code 3-2-1 indicates the cold start injector or its wiring. Sure that code is right?

If it's 1-2-1, the it is absolutely not unusual for the code not to be set all the time. In fact, it's not unusual for that code to be set when it has nothing to do with the AMM. It could also have to do with the O2 sensor, as the computer compares the signals between these two devices. I can write from first-hand experience that it can also be set due to a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake system after the AMM.

3-2-1 and 3-2-2 seem like pretty clear-cut wiring issues. Wiring issues may be intermittent, though. Clean the connectors at the AMM (3-2-2) or the Cold Start Injector (3-2-1), slather them up with dielectric grease (easily available at auto parts stores, excludes water and grunge, resists corrosion) and reassemble. Inspect insulations as well as possible. Clear the codes and try again. If the problem persists, consider replacing parts. Still no luck? Might be a short inside the wiring harness. YIKES!
