Does anyone know any effective ways to lower your blood lead level that actaually works? My fiancee works at Exide battery plant and has a high lead level. He needs to work there b/c it pays better than anything else around right now, so no quitting.

    Stick it!!

Lead collects and builds up in the body over time.

I worked in Stained Glass and was always concerned because I did a lot of it.

His employer should provide any protection necessary, a mask, gloves whatever he needs. He should change his cloths before he enters his home. Lead dust collects on everything. Take a shower and wash his hair. Keep any wounds he may have, scratches....anything open covered with a bandaid while at work.

In lead poisoning, ingested or inhaled, lead enters the bloodstream. It inhibits the production of hemoglobin - which is needed by red cells to carry oxygen - and locks onto and inactivates essential enzymes in the brain and nervous system.

It is nothing to mess around with. He should have his
Doctor test his lead levels immediately.

Lead poisoning can be treated if treatment begins before too much damage has occurred.
Lead is removed through a process called chelation, using drugs to bind to the metal in the bloodstream, flushing it out in the urine.

    • they test everyone there frequently. they put him in a lower lead environment, he doesn't need chelation yet. he uses alpha lipoic acid, but it doesnt seem to lower it that much. they use respirators, wear gloves, and separate clothes provided. when their lead gets high they take mid shift showers, not to mention the showers they take when they get off of work there, then change back to their original clothes.but thank you!

    • His exposure must be high, I'm surprised they don't put him in
      a space suit.
