For all the pro-lifers out there i have a question: If you create a life (fetus) doesn't that give you the right to take it (handgun)?

Santorum doesn't believe in abortion even if his wife/daughter is raped and gets pregnant. Is he willing to raise the child as his own?

So easy to preach when you will never be called upon to carry the said 'child'. Shooting a viable human being is different to having an abortion, the fetus is unable to live outside the womb or independent of its mother. Is it life? yes, it is, but human beings kill every day in order to survive, that is the natural law of things. You say what about the rights of the unborn child? Well guess what, it has none. By your reasoning I and my son would both be dead as I was ill when pregnant with him and the doctors were looking at aborting him to save my life. Why force the woman to suffer the fathers crimes? Why is the fetus more important than she?

I would like to hear you say these things right to the face of a pregnant rape victim. Do you honestly think that after such trauma all the women can think about is "oh how selfish I am... not wanting the unborn child of my rapist... jeez god please forgive me for my sin of such splfishness... i can not provide for this baby emotionally and physically therefor I shall have it anyway and neglect it on so many levels... cos that the morally rightous thing to do". And whilst I am at it, I shall go shoot the children of my rapist too. Its not murder if hes a rpist right??? You Tool.

I agree Words. I know a woman who was repeatedly raped over several hours well tied to a bed at the age of 13 and became pregnant from it.

It truly is horrible, and I don't understand how pro lifers continually go about preaching to the world about something they have no notion of. I am a nurse and have worked in an abortion clinic and seen it with my own eyes, I have held their hands and yet I too myself can not comprehend their pain and suffering. I think all pro lifers should spend a day in my shoes, and those of the sufferers and other staff at the clinics.

I agree.

I've never been pregnant, but I have been sexually assaulted and this answer does not offend me. The answers that do offend me are the ones with people who assume all women who were raped and pregnant would want an abortion. Personally, if I was pregnant as a result of a rape, I would not get an abortion. I believe it is my duty to care for my child, especially when he or she is not able to live on his or her own without my help. That being said, I do understand why someone would want an abortion in this scenario. It's not something I'd want personally, but I do have compassion for other women who have been or will be in this circumstance.
@HumanEncyclopedia: "The child isn't innocent, it is the spawn of an evil act and should be aborted because of that simple fact. While the woman can do what she wants, you can't cry poor innocent child in this scenario because of the circumstances that led to the pregnancy." ARE YOU SERIOUS? Consider your comment reported as offensive. That comment is COMPLETELY HEARTLESS. While I understand why a woman would want an abortion in the case of a rape, what you said is just SO wrong. That's taking your position too far and is not considering the fact that there are children who have been born as a result of rape who are loved and cared for. They were never, ever, ever guilty of their father's crime. That was not a nice thing for you to say at all.
The important thing for us all to remember is that nobody is making us have an abortion. We don't have to have an abortion. We are not legally obligated to. We have a choice. If we don't want one, we don't have to have one. There would still be abortions if abortion was illegal, and who's to say the baby will be "killed properly" as disgusting as that sounds to us in the case of an illegal abortion? At least with medical help, the baby will find peace in death faster. As much as I view abortion as murder and as much as I hate it, I do wonder about the women who would have an abortion anyway. Imagine an illegal abortion, with the baby being slowly tortured to death. Would that death not be much slower? And more painful?
I find it interesting how many people who are so quick to abort and/or to support abortion do not support the death penalty for rapists... Kill the baby so that it does not affect the mother. Would these same people say "Kill the rapist so that memories of him or her do not bother the rape victim"? I'm not sure how I feel about the death penalty, but this is something I have wondered. This is not applicable to people who believe the unborn baby is not yet alive and is not yet human and are for abortion for that reason. It is applicable to the people who do believe the baby is alive and human and are still completely for abortion and see absolutely nothing wrong with it. Do these people think it's okay to kill an innocent child, but not okay to kill a rapist? I'd like to hear their opinions on this.
Oh, and just to make it abundantly clear, again,
NOBODY HAS TO GET AN ABORTION. Even if it's legal, we do not have to get one ourselves if it's against our consciences. Just like society believes it's not okay to force a woman to not have an abortion, it's also not okay to force someone to have one. Remember that.

You are right AG, nobody has to get an abortion, but the option should be there without the stigma so many place on it. Such as calling it murder. My friend was snatched off the streets at 13, tied to a bed and repeatedly raped over several hours. Her parents were catholic and refused to let her take the morning after pill, they also wanted her to carry that baby, give birth and then adopt it out. The horror of it, the shame, guilt, and fear of pregnancy and giving birth caused to her to develop an eating disorder which eventually led to her having a miscarriage. She still struggles with that eating disorder to this day. She should have been allowed the option. No child should be forced to have a child, especially when they certainly never gave consent to the sex in the first place. As a victim of sexual abuse when younger, I found James answer very offensive, especially since he can never find himself in the situation of getting pregnant by a rapist and can never know how it feels. You are right about what can happen if abortion is illegal. Those kinds of things did happen when it was illegal along with the loss of many womens lives as well.
by Gingerminx on April 27th, 2011
I understand what you're saying, but, if a person believes it is murder, the person believes it is murder. I don't believe it's wrong for people to say that, but I do believe it is wrong to look down on people who have had abortions. I understand why James' answer offended you.

Well my point over the murder comment was simply that it is inaccurate. Murder is a legal term used to describe the unlawful taking of a human life. If it is legal, like the death penalty, then it isn't murder.
by Gingerminx on April 27th, 2011
Yes, I understand that argument, and I've heard it before. However, that's not how many people see it. And they shouldn't have to change their views just because of a legal position. For example, if it suddenly became legal to kill adult women like us, does that make it any less murder to me or you? I'm attempting to use an example you can relate to. While it's not that big of a deal to you, to many people, an unborn child's life is extremely important, and is just as, if not more important than the lives of others who can live without the help of anybody else.
by A on April 27th, 2011
Actually, to me it does mean it isn't murder. I am not saying it is right or wrong, that is a moral judgment, simply that it is inaccurate to call it murder.
by Gingerminx on April 28th, 2011
Okay. Well, I'm glad you're not holding a double standard.
