If a star is light years away so it takes years for its light to reach us, can scientists tell if the star is actually still there and that it hasn't gone supernova or died out?

    An unnamed star was seen to go supernova in 1054 AD. This star was appx. 6300 lightyears away, so the explosion actually occured about 7300 years ago. we didn't see it until a thousand years ago.
