  • Are you traveling my car, plane, train?

    How old is the child(ren)?

For very young children traveling I think the best idea is to travel at night and hope they sleep.

Pre-schoolers like play simple games like finding things that are a certain color or shape. Sing alongs are good for a short while but can get tiresome. If you have a cd or tape player there are many stories on tape that they can listen to with headphones. Coloring books with just a few crayons can be good but plan on the children dropping them frequently for attention. If there is a way to tie each crayon to something that may help. Another game for this age is for you to start a simple story and have them finish it.

Older kids can look to see how many different state licence plates they can find. Handheld electronic games are good as are travel board games with magnetic pieces. If your child knows how to tell time definitly give them a watch. Tell them what time you expect to arrive or stop. Make sure you give yourself a little extra time for traffic ect. Hope this will stop them from whining when will we get there.

    These are just general ideas.
