Stress is a word used a lot these days but surprisingly few people understand what stress is. Stress is required for survival. Normal levels of stress are required for every day motivational and creative activity. Example, I must get out of bed to go to work, this is a thought which triggers a set of signals which in turn prepare the body to carry out this action. In extreme situations we call it fight or flight responses, this is about survival and preservation of ones life when threatened by extreme danger. The physiological responses are much more drastic, to mention just a few, thickening of the blood to prevent blood loss, diverting blood to the most needed areas of the body, quickened heart beat, etc. The problem is that many people these days are living on the edge by leading very stressful lives so the body is in a permanent state of arousal (flight or fight response) which gives rise to many physical mental and emotional problems since there is no real danger to deal with excepting yourself maybe. Regular moderate exercise, healthy diet, calming music, meditation and the like are all good ways to deal with stress. Cut out any activity which is over stimulating. Best of all see a qualified Stress Counsellor who will be able to help you identify the stressors in your life and importantly agree a plan which will help you to manage your stress more effectively.
