Hmm, apparently a lot of you ahven't read up on teh history of the name "soccer". It originated in England, from the term Association Football (to distinguish it from Rugby Football), and was abbreviated as soccer (asSOCiation). Even as early as the mid 1900s it was still called soccer in Britain just as often as it was referred to as "football".
Ironic, isn't it, that people still give Americans crap for that? Do you hassle the Italians for calling soccer "calcio"?
Didn't think so. Educate yourselves.
