What is the purpose of toner?

    I'm still questioning if the marketing people in the skincare industry are brainwashing us by telling us more products are necessary, but from doing some research online I have learned that toner supposedly:

    - serves as a final cleanup, picking up any dirt or oils or residual cleanser that might have been left behind

    - brings the skin back to pH balanced levels of around 5.5 (which can be thrown off by cleansing in water, which may have a pH of up to 9.5 depending on your area)

    - is a very important step to prepare your skin for moisturizer as it helps your skin hold moisture better.
