Question

Help answer this question below.

I recently lost my 13yr. old yellow lab (purebred). I have been offered a puppy (mother is choc. lab, father is a pit bull/choc.lab mix). The grandfather was a calm pit bull. What are the chances this puppy will show pit bull traits (I have grandchildren)

  • Even if the grandfather was calm that doesn't me the puppy will be. There are so many tragedies that happen I wouldn't risk it. The age of your grandchild and their temperment is a factor as well. If your grandchildren can't be trusted to behave responsibly around the dog then I definitly wouldn't trust it. For instance do they know not to approach a dog when they are eating or not to suddenly take their toy away.

However there are tests you can do to check a dogs temperment. I would speak to a professional and see what they are. That would at least give you some idea although I don't believe that it is a guaruntee.
