Without knowing more about her specific condition, I don't know if the desire to die is just a reaction to the severe pain or hopelessness. If it's the former then maybe you can try some alternative therapies for pain, e.g. cannabis (controversial, but known to relieve pain in some instances where drugs don't work, ask your doctor); distraction with music, movies, TV or conversation; heat & cold therapy; massage, etc.

If it's the latter then I'm not sure how I would react to that either. The best I could do is just be there for her, to listen and help her verbalize her feelings. Good luck.

    • It's definately the pain. The doctors have put her on so many immune boosters in order to fight the cancer, and so many pain meds that nothing works on her anymore. They've stop all treatment, and are just waiting for her to die at this point. Meanwhile, the pain has gotten so severe that she can neither eat nor sleep. She can't even get comfortable. She just wants the pain to stop. It's watching someone you love being torchered 24/7, and I feel helpless to rescue her.
