To keep insurgents from blowing up the Iraqi oil pipelines, why aren't they relaid underground?

    Yes we would lose so much money without the oil flowing as freely if it were under construction but that isn't the point of the U.S. being there, or at least originally it wasn't the point. We are just supposed to establish a sovergn nation.

    Plus the implications of an underground pipeline these days are very risky. With all of the environmental hazards that we know oil creates if there was just a small leak in a 100 mile pipeline there could be disasterous effects on the environment surrounding it.
