Question

Help answer this question below.

My pediatician told me that once you treat a person for headlice with RID or NIX (both containing pesticides) the nit shells will still remain but they are empty shells - the eggs will not hatch. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

  • Buzz Wrong answer. I don't know where your Peditrican got his info but that is completely incorrect. That is why any treatment for lice will tell you to retreat after two weeks. I am really suprised he said that.

    • I have found that the boxes retreat. I have been picking nits out of my childs head for a week now. The number continues to decrease dramatically but after a couple of days I thought hmmm lets take a look at this one under a microscope and whala it was a nit that was just an empty shell. It is because of that find that I am throwing the question out there to you all :)
      thanks

    • Do what you think is best. But it has been experience that if a person does not get properly treated which includes treating and retreating all household members as well as washing linens, towels ect. in HOT water and sometimes even treating furnishing. BTW in the U.S. a school will not allow a child with nits to come to school even if they do not have any visible lice.
