    Yes. I have been in an instance where they thwarted a crime. Granted, they are involved in crimes; most violent crimes in fact. But, if criminals can have them, so should law abiding citizens. I am all for gun safety, and most states require legally purchasing gun owners to take a safety course. I know it is a requirement for a conceal permit. I think illegal handgun penalties should be stricter, and illegal gun rings focused on in investigations. I grew up around guns and was taught how to use them safely, and they were stored safely.

      Thanks for such an informative answer! I sure would hate to see the day that law abiding citizens would not be able to own guns to protect themselves!
