Help answer this question below.

Why is there a ratio of 3 or 4 to 1 of right to left handers. Would'nt you expect 50 50 ish like male / female

    Yeah, what katydid15 said - in addition - left-handedness is pretty neutral - ie: it doesn't detract from or add to an individual's chances of surviving and/or reproducing.
    So it is not going to be selected for in any way that will increase the numbers...

    • So what selected for right-handedness in the first place? Which is what the question is asking, really.

    • No idea! Interesting thought though. Could be that it came along with other traits. Could be that, purely by chance, right-handedness popped out as the dominant gene and because there's no selective pressure it just stayed that way. Might have to look into it...
