For his "strong commitment" to the environment and environmental issues centering around global warming. Personally I think it's bullshit. There are so many better candidates out there for the Nobel Peace Prize that would have deserved it more. How about a real scientist for example. Or somebody actually working for peace in the world...

    • well, some would say it's if nothing else just as important to ensure a stable global environment as peace

    • and some would say Al Gore has contributed nothing to that end.

    • I would agree with that sentiment to a degree, however there are so many scientists and others out there that have worked their entire lives to do just that and will never get recognized for their efforts..

    • true. Al Gore has made absolutely no scientific work to solve the problem himself. But he has made people more aware of its existence, which is just as important.
What is ultimately needed to stop the global warming is new types of fuel, but we can't just lean back and wait for that moment to come. Meanwhile it's necessary to do everything possible to reduce the CO2 emissions, and I'd say he's made people more aware of that fact.

    • I'd agree with Nathan Explosion.
I think the whole "Global Warming" scare perpetuated by Gore and the world elite is all bullshit.
There's nothing we as humans can do to stop any "climate change".
Yes, pollution is a problem, not for the earth, but for the humans on the Earth.
Trees and plantlife THRIVE off CO2, and then create MORE oxygen! CO2 is harmful to humans, but not any more harmful than the cigerettes most people smoke everyday. Why don't the Global Warming Activists try to shut down cigerette companies if they care so much about human life on the Earth??????
We DON'T need a "Carbon Tax". Skrew Gore for his Propaganda tactics. And Skrew Energy Companies for not giving people for options of energy resources other than Gas and oil. You can't blame the people for their use of gas and oil if there are very little options available. It's these companies who are "addicted to oil" and its reaking "benefits" and NOT the people.

    • I agree. Something really stinks about Gore suddenly becoming passionate about the environment! I think there were far better candidates out there for the Nobel Peace prize and Al Gore getting it gives me a cynical view of the whole award selection process. It's almost as if it was a consolation award for not getting elected president in 2000.

    • Mankinds contribution to climate change is miniscule, extremely insignificant. We could not effect the temperature of the Earth is we tried with all our ability. Common sense says anyone who believes otherwise is a fool. Al Gore is the biggest fool of all, and all the chicken littles who buy his crap are fools too.

    • Humans CAN and DO effect the climate and all the life on this planet is being effected by our population growth.. Bio-diversity on this earth is suffering incredibly. It would take a bigger fool than even Al Gore to try to argue that man is having no effect. Every day thousands maybe millions of species are being wiped out simply by mankind moving in on their natural habitat and giving them nowhere to go to live. Whether or not it's global warming or carbon dioxide is debatable. Our detrimental effect on all the species on this earth however simply is not debatable.

    • @prisoner. You forget that a lot of animal species will be affected too. To hell with humans suffering from the global warming, we're just one species of many, it's the animals I'm concerned about. And yes, we can actually relate the climate changes to CO2.
Global warming and changes in the global temperature has happened several times before. We shouldn't be TOO worried about this, although a lot of places will be flooded because of the melting is. What we SHOULD be concerned about is the pace with which the temperature changes. It's going WAY too fast for the animal species to adjust to the changes. As an example, if it happened slowly over the span of a few centuries, perhaps 500 years, polar bears might have time to realize staying on the north pole is a bad idea. But right now theres's no chance of survival for those who inhabit the north pole. They're pretty much doomed without our help.
There's countless of other examples of this...

It's not the energy company's fault that oil and gas are predominant. When was the last time you made a donation to alternative energy research? We are the ones that vote in the politicians who work towards or against alternative energy. If we don't vote the right people in then why blame the energy companies?
