Is it possible in a game of chess for both White and Black to have 9 queens each on the board?

    I originally stated that it was not possible, but neglected to take into account offering non-pawn pieces for the pawns to capture. In light of the sample game provided in another answer, I do believe it is indeed possible to simultaneously have 18 queens on the board at once.
