You're reading Purely out of curiousity, if Christ existed and were to return today, how do you think he'd react to modern popular Christianity? And, as an off the cuff sub question, do you think you would recognise him if he did return?

Just as long as he didn't join the average Buddhist monastery or center in the West. They'd kick him out for either not being wealthy enough or not being bland enough.

Personally, I think it more likely that Jesus was with the Essenes, but we'll never know for sure. Wherever he disappeared to for so many years, the evidence is just too slim. We can't after all be that certain that he even existed. Though we do know that Christianity as it was originally taught was very very different from the religion that we see today. For instance the idea of Christ as the son of god was mostly a later invention.
