Ah...the great question asked by Mac and Linux users everywhere...

The answer is so complex it's simple: Because not enough people want to change.

Because the market is flooded with Microsoft products, and people have experience with them at work, home and school, they are comfortable with them. They know that changing to a new operating system, or software package, would take them into unfamiliar territory, and, in the world of computers, that can be a little scary.

The obstacle is that most companies are reluctant to change. Most people (over the age of 22) get their computer exposure at work, and most companies still rely on Microsoft products. If these companies started using new operating systems, people might be more willing to accept the change.

Microsoft knows this, which is why they do everything they can to make sure companies feel like they can't afford to change. The industry is neck-deep in Microsoft and it's hard to crawl out.

So remember the Microsoft motto: The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

    Peace!

    • Good answer. Also, doesn't MS buy small companies out? To keep competition down.
