Question

Is there a word which means the opposite to oxymoron (i.e when a noun implies, and thus makes redundant, the adjective put in front of it)? Don't ask for an example as I can't think of anything

You mean like the phrases "the hoi polloi," and "ATM machine?" :o)

    • I meant phrases like male actor,
      or more commonly free gift,
I often laugh when I hear these,
      It gives a little lift,
      For the adjective is redundant,
And is there just to fill the page,
      And to sell more products,
      Is this materialistic age

    • FYI these days, in common parlance,
"Actor" can be male or female, when given the chance. :o)
