The pill itself is the one that can cause strokes, and blood clots. If you are a smoker it simply increases the chances. I know MANY who have come in contact with 2nd hand smoke while on the pill and were not affected.

    • i never had issues till i was on birth control at age 40 and started dating a heavy smoker... was exposed quite a bit to the second-hand smoke... and after a month of dating found myself lucky to be alive with a blood clot in my leg and 2 pulmonary embolisms in my lungs, i could have died! I'm no longer on birth control and finally after a year of being on blood thinners am free of those. BUT the risk is still high for me if im exposed to the second-hand smoke... i'm sorry its not worth my life!!
