Help answer this question below.

I am 14, and he is turning 18. What can I say to convince him that it won't be illegal if we start going out together?

    It WILL be illegal if you have sex, and there is nothing you can say to change that....except move to another country.

    If you are just dating, then it is legal, but a little unusual.

    If you have to say ANYTHING to "convince" him, then he probably doesn't want to start seeing you anyway.

    My answer was based only on US laws. I am not sure of the "age of consent" laws in other countries. I have tried to look up Canada's, but have been unable to find anything definitive.

    • In Canada minors can have consensual sex if there is less than a 2 year age difference, and a person used to be considered to be able to give informed consent at 16. It has just recently been changed to 17. I think. It's been 20 years since I took sex.ed., and the change to 17, I just saw a bit on the news last year.
