The Beatles: Greatest band of all time or overrated?

    I think it's because they were the first to do it all themselves. Like the question implies, they were good, but they weren't as good as the media portrays.

    They were just the first really popular band to write, compose and perform their own music, which sort of gave permission to everyone else to do it as well.

    Their were others who did, but were less popular, their was Elvis, who was more popular, but didn't write his own lyrics. The Beatles were just the right package at the right time.

    Like the Spice Girls (absolute crap). They filled the right space at the right time.

    • I agree, Captain,...and now there is the "nostalgia" thing. Nostalgia is blind to real quality. The music reminds us of a time we miss.

    • ok neither elvis nor the spice girls wrote their own own music so they can't be compared to the Beatles. and 2 Elvis was never and has never been more popular than the Beatles. The Beatles had more hits and sold more records period and the crazy thing is they still do and they didn't have to die to do it.
