Giada is not Oscar de la Renta's great-grandughter. She is Dino De Laurentiis's granddaughter. And she is a real chef - trained at Le Cordon Bleu and worked her way up through a number of high profile restaurants.

I am not a fan of her show, it is too glossy and over-produced, but I do respect her as a chef and have tried some of her easier recipes with success.

Now, Sandra Lee is some super-entreprenuer who actually started in interior design. Think a prettier, perkier version of Martha Stewart. She drives me nuts but I have to respect a self-made woman.

I think they are both on because they look good on camera and they can both talk and cook. They both have unique concepts (particularly Sandra). Neither are my favorites on the Food Network, but someone must be watching their shows. It is highly competitive and they must be pulling in ratings.
