No one "kills" plants for food. It is the only fruits and vegetables produced by plants are taken for food. It is also the natures way of propagating its species. I do not view the subject on "holier than thou" attitude. Also, food habit depends on the availability of the kind of food. If some one wants to kill animals for food it is upto his conscience to ponder before killing the animal. As a refined human being I would not kill any living being unless it is a must for self defence.

actually, you aren't "born vegetarian", you were born a carnivore ... the human digestive tract, everything from specifically shaped teeth to digestive enzymes to the structure of our stomach and intestines is designed for eating meat ... you are a vegetarian by choice

We cant survive as a species without meat. Its because of meat that our brains evolved which let us survive.
Go eat your tofu but you'll never convince me that humanity could survive without killing something for food.
HOWEVER i do agree that they shouldn't suffer. There must be ways to kill with no pain or suffering inflicted on the animal.
