Question

Help answer this question below.

Since Apple decided to screw its customers by requiring them to use 'official Apple' cables or docks to display video with the iPod Classic onto Television... does anyone know of patch for this... even a homemade one, that is available currently?

It's actually much simpler than you think. All you need is a video cable that is used for video cameras output to a tv. One end is a regualar headphone style sized plug. On the other end is 3 male phono plugs, or, the standard yellow, red, white composite plugs. But as a clever move on Apples part, they switch it around so that if you hook up the cable to your tv and its colour coded, you get no signal. Instead, plug the cables into your tv in this order:

    Red plug to Yellow input
    Yellow plug to White input
    White plug to Red input

P.S. I can only confirm this works on my 5th Gen iPod Video. Since you have the 6th Gen Classic, Apple may have tried to fix this "hack".

    • That's what the lady at Best Buy said, so I tried that, but it didn't seem to work. With the classic they seem to have made it so that it will not send video through the headphone jack anymore, you must use a cable that attaches to the bottom of the iPod where the dock connects... then it must either recognize the cable as official, or the dock as official, but if neither are official, it will not get past the screen on your iPod telling you to hook up a device.

    • A little after posting this I found out that Apple did move the video out from the headphone jack to the dock connector. As of right now, you need a Apple branded cable to hook it up because they have a chip in the cable to allow the video signals through. Eventually they will let 3rd party companies have this chip as well. Still a really greedy move on Apples part, and especially annoying for someone that has a dock for an older iPod and must now get another dock in order to play video through their new iPod. Oh well.
