Can a person be addicted to another person? (2009-08-26)

    You have to define what you mean by addiction. I person cannot be physically addicted to someone else. Physical addiction occurs when the body exhibts physical withdrawl symptoms when a substance is withdrawn. This does not happen when you stop a relationship.

    However in the looser sense yes you can be emotionally addicted to someone. In otherwords you are so enmeshed or entangled with this person that you believe you can't let him or her go.

    • physical addiction, sir. if having sex or other sexual pleasures with one another it releases chemicals in your brain, this is your 'substance'. So yes I do believe one could have withdrawal or addiction. They may have been dependent (weather they realized it or not) on those sexual feelings. thumbs down?
