ronald reagan was the right president at the right time the united states needed him. for one, jimmy carter was a good man, but he was weak at foreign policy. in iran the shaw of iran was exiled and a new muslim extremist came out of exile from france and took power his name was the ayatollah khomeini. under khomeini the US embassy was over thrown and 52 americans were taken. with a failed rescue 8 american service men were killed. this action pretty much sealed jimmy carters defeat. in a land slide vitory ronald reagan became president. within minutes of being sworn in as president. the hostages in iran were released. making ronald reagan a hero by the nation. this hard line was to follow reagan right through to the arms dealing. and was brought to light by the iran contra hearings, which oliver north under oath said that there was no hostages for arms. and ronald reagan was to say he had no idea about the arms for hostages, and doing so the american public let him finish his days in office with a very questionable foreign policy record. ronald reagan was the right man at the right time, but he kinda over stayed his welcome. and yes he did more good than he did bad. and he served calafornia good and his people better.
