XP has compatibility modes that are more resilient than 2000. While 2000 is a very robust and secure operating system, it really wasn't built for the home user. XP uses the best aspects of 2000, and basically added "colors." As XP was defined for the home market, it has far better "user-friendly" additions. Both are great for work, but XP is quite a bit better at play.
