Because people are afraid of being wrong and having to deal with the fact that they may have made the wrong decisions. It's easier for some to just go with the flow. I believe that homeschooling is great for some kids and some kids do better in a more traditional classroom environment. My nieces are homeschooled and are very social with several kinds of community groups and they are extremely confident and probably the most considerate teeners that I have ever met. My kids on the other hand prefer the classroom and do quite well there.
