Help answer this question below.

How do you handle a child that is not yours and that you totally dislike? He is a brat and only thinks about himself. I have even told my boyfriend I cannot stand his kid.

    It isn't quite fair for an adult to dislike a child. You are the smart, wise, and experienced person of the two . . . why would you consider that the boy needs to make the first positive move towards a healthy relationship?

    The boy sees you as a problem - you are the division symbol in his family life. By being passive or actively aggressive towards you until you leave, his life becomes less fractured. In fact, the boy may be more perceptive to the quality of his father's life than you are.

    Information about all boys: We "pull the pigtails" of the girls we like. . . we overcompensate for percieved rejection by being very self-centered and often brutally mean . . . and the attention of our father's is more important than anything else in the world, especially YOUR feelings.

    If you want to make this work, there are many ways that you can bring the boy around. Spend time with him - take him to the zoo. Touch him, on the hand, on the shoulder, make contact. His future wife will thank you if you can teach him how to be polite and charming. Laugh at his jokes, give him all the attention, make him fall in love with you too.

    If you cannot fathom accomplishing this, then you need to run away, fast.
