Amen sister! I have a second generation GSD/Husky bitch...she is one of the smartest dogs I've ever had, an also the most challenging...she's a total corker!
by Redhawk on December 15th, 2006
Oh yeah - they are smart enough to decide whether or not they want to listen to you. They also like to escape and run away... but not to leave you, just to go for a run and have fun. We always found ours down the street at the golf course chasing ducks. Can't leave the gate open for a second...

I believe it! I'm already pretty sure I won't be working Hannah off lead in open spaces...it's not worth my ego to watch her pace off and throw that look over her shoulder..."whata ya mean COME?...YOU COME, catch up...lets go sniff!"

Jen, I am not trying to be nit-picky here, but since they are one of my personal faves, I have to say, the correct name of the breed is "Bernese Mountain Dog". Spelled with an "N" not an "M". The Bernie is a very special dog, and has a very large following.

My apologies Darryl - I will fix that. I swear I knew that... my typing just did not match up with my brain.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are absolutely awesome, except they shed more than anyone can ever imagine until they have one. I had one for 7 years and I lost her to lymphoma. She took a big part of my heart with her. She was an earth angel for sure.

I bet they do shed quite a bit. Funny story - when I was little, and my parents went to buy our husky - the lady told them that huskies didn't shed! What a HUGE lie! They also shed like crazy. We vacuumed every other day sometimes, and brushing her would remove a pile of hair the size of a puppy, but wouldn't lessen the amount of hair we found all over the carpet.
sorry for the loss of your dog. We lost our husky to cancer also.

Thanks Jenniferocious. Love all of them the Bernie's are suffering from a new problem that is taking them before the age of 2, it's awful.
