I only agree with research on adult stem cells. While others don't agree with me, I believe a fetus is a living person. It is a human being that deserves just as much of a chance at living a long life as you or I did before we were born. I believe that embryonic stem cell research is wrong. Killing an innocent child(again...this is what I believe...maybe not you...but I) is murder, and should not be condoned. Those who are in favor of it to save the lives of others fail to realize that killing someone else(who is innocent) to save yourself is sick. It's like an adult shielding themselves from gunfire with a child. Simply wrong.

Everything happens for a reason. It's all part of God's plan.
This is all coming from my Christian beliefs, and my belief that a "fetus" is a living human being from the time of conception. I'm not afraid to state that, even though I'll probably get criticism.

    • But if the fetus has already been aborted, should the stem cells go to waste or be used to save another child. You don't have to agree with one to agree with the other. I don't believe people should be shot in the street, but if they are shouldn't we use their organs to save others if they were an organ donor?

    • There's a difference in being shot in the street and dying naturally. One is murder, the other is simply death. If a baby dies naturally, then all you are doing is using a body, which is perfectly fine. The problem that I have with stem cell research is that fetuses are aborted to be used in research. That's like killing a person to use their organs. That's murder.

      Simply put:
Take it if it's given to you by God.
Don't go out and steal it.

    • No it's not. You're making two completely seperate issues the same thing. The babies are being aborted FOR the stem cells.

    • How was my answer helpful or not helpful? It's MY OPINION!!! That's what the question asked for, and that's what I gave. You could have at least left a comment, but I guess you're just a coward.

    • Of course, your the same person I was arguing with over whether the government should be able to read our mail. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/96157

    • Drublic: Plain and simple--If you give someone a reason to do something, they will be more likely to do it. I don't support stem cell research for many reasons, but as to your last comment, that is the main reason why I don't support it. Babies are being killed BECAUSE of stem cell research. Stem cell research isn't going on because babies are being killed. If you get rid of embryonic stem cell research, you take away a reason for abortion. Then, the only reason that's left is lack of responsibility for one's actions.

    • msummers10, you bring up some important points, and I respect your view. However, as you said, many of your convictions seem to come from your religion. Do you think it is right for the government to enforce the pillars of your religion?

    • Abortion was around a long time before stem cell research was. I would like to know one person that has had an abortion so the cells could be harvested. Seriously, where are you getting this off the wall info?

    • msummers10, it is important that you realize that not killing an unborn human is not a religious faith based argument. Since you are a human now and it is wrong to kill you, then in order to justifying killing you when you were unborn would require a faith based argument that could somehow posit a specific point in time before which it is OK to kill you and after which it is not OK to kill you. ANy such argument would be based on the personal beliefs of the person making the argument.

In short, pro-life is science based, and abortion is based on personal religious belifs. You got it backwards.

    • Embryo's have yet to have subjective experiences, hence they could not deter between life and death,(which ever one you think they are) meaning it should be morally acceptable to do whatever with them.
And it can't turn into a baby unless its put in a womb, so its similar to a menstrual cycle when it gets discarded.
An egg has potential life, by not fertilizing every egg a woman has, you are denying the potential life of each one. Potential life does not characterize a being. A past life, or experiences is what exemplifies life, and an embryo has none of these.
