What makes a curse or swear, a curse or swear word? For instance why isn't a word like curtain considered a curse word?

    The origin of swear words varies, from word to word. The ones I know about are certain 4 letter words such as s--t were considered a lower form of language when a culture clash occured with anglo saxons. The ones considered cuss words now are part of what was considered a lower form of German. Another I know about (for sure) is the origin of the f word which was used by kings centuries ago. The king had to get permission from the church to cheat on his wife (for various reasons) this was labelled Fornication Under Consent of the King or F U C K, sorry it is hard to keep this clean for the young ones
