What is the origin of the name "Iran"?

    The following information is from the website of the Iran Chamber Society: http://www.iranchamber.com/history/articles/aryan_people_origins.php

    The name Iran means "Land of the Aryans"; the Iranians consider themselves the original Aryans (Yes, the same Aryan Race that the White Supremacists talk about). Iran used to be called Persia.

    From an inscription by Darius the Great at Naqshe-e-Rostam, around 504 BC: "I am Darius, the great king... Persian, the son of a Persian; Aryan, from the Aryan race."

    • Not the same as Aryan "white supremacists" at all. That is wrong and misleading.

    • Now you have me wondering what race the "White Supremacists" are actually talking about. I can't imagine some good ol' boys from rural Mississippi identifying with Indo-Iranian Aryans, if they even know they existed. The rest of the answer is innocuous enough, and relatively harmless, but bringing neo-NAZIs into this as the alter personae of White Supremacists, and linking them to Cyrus and Darius is a bit far-fetched. Hitler's "Aryan" race was based on a population of tall, lean, fair-skinned, blond geniuses completely without disregard for the typical Iranian, however intelligent they are. And seldom blond.

    • I guess there are a couple bright kid surfing the web, and leaving comments like the guy below me... but anyways I believe "white supremacist" was being applied to the British and Americans.... I myself believe that both of these 2 nations have given the public enough evidence for you to be able to get down to the same conclusion.... if you couldn't then you could probably think about how the black people got enslaved , and till this day not be sorry about it and preach to people how "they deserved to be enslaved just because they weren't good christian" (Mccaine supporter 2008 at USC) like you and your little familly... oh yea and Japan deserved being slaughtered, even though they had surrendered before throwing the atomic bomb... even though they did this they have the nerve to be telling who can have nuclear power and who cant.... Now aint that some BS..... (ps. wasn't sure if I spelled mccane the right way)
