What steps did you take to assist a friend to get out of an abusive, toxic family?

    I didn't do much personally, but my parents took in a friend of mine who's mother was extremely abusive and who's father was just plain neglectful and let the abuse happen.
    My parents never asked for anything in return, just that she graduate high school and to stay out of trouble, which she did.
    We had known her since she was 5 or 6 years old, so she basically became my sister and we still consider her part of the family to this day.

    • But is it as easy as that? Just to take them away from it all. What legal steps did you have to take? My friend is to afraid to do anything about it, she wants to go. But she will not call the police or anything when shes getting abused. And if she did get away she says he parents would come looking for her. What does she do than? What can she do to prevent that?
