    Time Lord

The moon is the main force behind tides across the world. Remove it and they recede to riples. If the moon were suddenly to dissapear there would be wild swings in the Earths rotational axis. This would result in more ellipetical orbit, with wild swings in temperature and massive climate changes that would make our lovely planet almost inhospitable. The creature we should pity the most, however, is the nautilus. This mollusc lives inside a spiral shell, made up of lots of hollow areas, all seperated by a partition. Each day it adds a new layer to its shell. At the end of the month, when the moon has completed one cycle around the earth it abandons its compartment, closes it with a partition and moves into its new one. Remove the moon and the nautilus becomes stranded, locked in the same compartment and wishing ruefully for the days when it could look forward to a new home.

    • Why would the Earth's orbit become more elliptical if our Moon were not there? Venus doesn't have a Moon, and its orbit is pretty circular.
