Why does Harry Potter die at the end of the new book?

    Because he needs to die so the bit of Voldemort's soul in him (the Horcrux) can be destroyed. However, the fact that he was willing to sacrifice himself allowed him to return to life, and defeat the Dark Lord once and for all.

    • He doesnt actually die. JK Rowling has said in some interviews that NO ONE can come back from the dead completely for any reason.
      Harry didnt die. He was inbetween death and life. He had the choice to "go on" or go back.

      Dumbledore even joked:
      "We are in King's Cross, you say? I think if you decided not to go back, you would be able to...let's say...board a train."
