    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The Nikon D40 can be fitted with all Nikkor AF-S, AF-I, AI-P and most other AF Nikkor prime lenses, plus the PC-Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D. Nikkor lenses designed for the F3AF SLR cannot be used. A number of prime lenses from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Zeiss and other manufacturers will also fit the D40. Some prime lenses reduce the D40's functionality.
